1.03 - The State of Our State

In 2010, the Nevada State Board of Education adopted the Nevada Academic Content Standards in English Language Arts and Mathematics. The Nevada Academic Content Standards seek to define what is expected of students as they articulate from grade to grade. Nevada adopted the standards because while 28% of Nevadan adults currently have an associate’s degree or higher, 58% of jobs in Nevada will require some degree by 2020 (source Links to an external site.).

Even more, assessments measuring student readiness found Nevada’s students consistently underperform and have “overall proficiency levels not suited to 21st century needs” (source Links to an external site.).
