Tips to Be a Successful e-Learner

Now it is time to learn about the strategies that can help you succeed in your online course. As we all know, success takes a combination of effort, focus, determination, and planning. Regardless of where or what you are learning, succeeding as a student must be a personal goal.

Successful students regulate their learning, their understanding of their learning, and their motivation towards learning. Here are some good and poor examples of task strategies:

Strategies to complete tasks

Setting realistic and achievable goals

Good goal setting: I will work on my English essay for 2 hours today at 2:00 p.m. and I will know I am ready for a break when I have completed a rough outline and first draft.
Poor goal setting: I will work on my English essay sometime this week. I’ll just work on it the day it is due.

Note taking procedures

Good note taking: I write the important facts and then next to each fact I write what that means to me and how it is related to the other parts of the reading.
Poor note taking: I write down the important facts.

Organization of class work

Good organization: I created a folder on my desktop or Google Drive for each course. (Note: If your instructor uses Google Integration to create Canvas assignment folders will be created for you automatically.) All of the tasks that I complete, my notes, and my study guides are organized into module folders in each course folder.
Poor organization: I place all of my course tasks and notes on my desktop. I will just put them in a folder at the end of the semester.
